I want to connect my Xbox 360 to this when i get the tele but was wondering if the TV has optical out. Cant seen anything on the specifications in online stores but wanted to be sure. Obviously if it does, i can just use that to connect to my amp.

Otherwise I would have to use the specific Xbox 360 HDMI with optical. My concern with that is i would doubt it would be as good as the QED HDMI cable i was going to buy. Does anyone know of any good quality XBOX HDMI cables with optical out that would be as good?

Thanks

Usually TVs such as this have limited digital output capability - often only from the built-in Freeview tuner. According to the spec for the bigger TH-42PX80, it doesn't have an optical out, so I suspect the 37 doesn't either.

Also, if you're looking to get Dolby Digital from the XBox 360, I don't think your plan of sending normal signal through HDMI cable to the TV and then sound from the TV to the amp will give you this. I'm pretty sure it'll only give you stereo (if indeed it lets you output the sound as Andrew's pointed out above)...

Ok thanks, i'll just have to see if i can find a higher quality version of the Microsoft cable and connect that way. I was just concerned as most of these cables are not always that great. I wanted a decent cable as i'll also be using the Xbox to upscale DVD's.

Great thanks. Just one question. With the other end being component, is that as good as a pure HDMI to HDMI connection? Sorry, but i dont know too much about component video and how it compares.

HDMI will give you a better picture in theory, but given the PX80 can't do 1080p, I'm not sure how noticeable it will be. However, the leads on Andrew's page includes an HDMI cable as well.
