Do I need a new needle

I went to put a coupld of records on last night for the first time in a while and they all sound muffled and wooly, even though the records and needle etc are clean.

Is this the needle wearing out? I would have thought it would be a gradual drop in sound quality rather than a fine one time not the next?

It may sound simple but have you checked all the connections?

Also, you don't say how long you have had the stylus for, type of kit etc.

Yeah i've tried plugging in all the connections again.

It's a project debut 3 into nad pp2 into moon i-1

Does the arm go down like normal? Check the downforce, it should be set to 17.5 and is the anti-skate thread on? Also, check the wires are going to the cartridge correctly. Post a piccy if you are unsure. Otherwise, I would say it sounds like the stylus has gone.
