Just purchased Sony 760 bluray and want to connect it to my Denon AVR1906 amp. The Denon has no HDMI but I don`t want to replace it unless I really have to. Can I continue to use the coaxial connection to get sound from the bluray? - if so how?. I know I can use the multichannel analogue route as well - again, how? and what will the difference be in sound quality between the two?

Hi, I have an S760 and an amp with no HDMI (in my case an Arcam AVR250). If you use a Coaxial connnection for the sound from the BDP, you will only get lossy Dolby 5.1 / DTS. If you want proper HD sound, you will need to use the multi-channel analogue outs. In this case, you will either need a specialist 5.1 or 6.1 RCA/Phono plug lead, or 4 pairs (for 7.1, 3 pairs for 5.1) of standard analogue RCS/Phono leads. I use 4xChord Crimson.

The Multichannel analogue route will give you far better sound on blurays than the coaxial. The Coaxial might be better for DVDs, depending on the relevant strengths of the DAC in the Denon vs. the Sony.
