Do Blu Ray Discs Have Anamorphic encoding?

Hi People, i was just wondering if blu ray discs have anamorphic enncoding the same way dvd's have?

I'm guess they must do as I get properly proportioned widescreen pictures.

No they don't, because their native resolution (1920x1080) is widescreen by nature. DVD has a resolution of either 720x480 or 720x576, which is 4:3 and therefore requires the image to be horizontally squeezed when it's encoded to enable it to maintain the proper aspect ratio when stretched back out to fill a 16:9 frame.
