disconnecting pc from hi fi

In December the BBC will launch its new online radio portal which will apparently eventually stream 100s of stations at 320 kbps. I listen almost exclusively to the radio and am therefore very much looking forward to this new portal. Currently I listen to the radio through my pc using a wired connection to the line in, but would like to liberate the pc from the Onkyo, and also use the digital imput at the back of the amp. I have tried to connect an airport express for this purpose [which looked like a perfect solution] but like so many others have failed after many attempts to get a network connection. Is there anything else on the market that I could use instead of the express?

I do not know what the BBC will offer in terms of format, but there are media players that can play (shoutcast) radio stations from the internet, check AC Ryan Playon for instance. You then operate the system with a remote on your tv. If needed you can connect your pc (wired, optional by wireless or homeplugs). You can then access all media in your network, and a w7 pc can direct its audio output to it. In theory this is all possible and very versatile (also for video & photos). Check forums to see how well it works though.

If you are in the UK, the Logitech Squeezebox players can already take the Radio 3 320kpbs feed (and the Radio 2 'Electric Proms' special events) + all the other BBC radio stations, of course. You need to install the BBC iPlayer plug-in on your locally running Squeezebox Server.

One of these days someone will create software to easily sync airport express to windows machines and make him or herself a fortune. In the meanwhile there must be hundreds of thousands of these things sitting in cupboards doing nought because they will only work with Macs.
