Digital optical out on the Yamaha CRXD430.....

Hi, i notice the Yamaha CRXD430 system has an optical out on the back and my ps3 does also, however my tv does not have an optical output.

Will an optical cable still produce sound and work going straight from the ps3 to the Yamaha unit?

This would be nice if it worked as optical is better then rca right?

more or less the ame.some say rca will sound fatter and optikal more detailed.

if they are both optical OUTs as you say what are you trying to do?

The optical connection on the Yamaha system is purely a digital output, designed to feed a digital audio recorder, so won't be of any use if you're thinking of playing sound from the PS3 through the system.

You'll have to use stereo analogue out from the PS3 to the Yamaha's Aux In sockets to do this.

Ok thanks. i was using the method of using a rca cable previously anyway, just wondered on using a digital optical, this clears it up though. thanks.
