Question Digital audio output hdmi

I am looking to connect my tv to my hi fi to play it thru the hifi speakers . Can optical out handle dolby atmos, dolby digital plus or dolby digital or do i have to use hdmi arc

Also in terms of sky is it best to choose passthrough and let the hifi amp do the processing

Do you have a full surround sound system or just 2 channel stereo?

If it’s the latter then none of the surround formats will really matter (as you can only play in stereo) so optical will be fine.

If you do have a full surround set up then you will need HDMI for Atoms/True HD but optical is fine for Dolby Digital.

Just 2 channel stereo so optical it is. I want to hold on to as many of the 4 hdmi 4k 120 hz ports as possible anyway
