The detail is all there in the source. I suppose it begins with the CDP being able to dig up as much as possible of what is there on the disk. After that I've always just assumed that it is up to the rest of the components to do their best not to lose that detail. Nothing that has been been lost or distorted higher upstream can be put back in by interconnects, amps, speaker cable or speakers, but they all do play important roles in preserving or even coloring the original information as they convert it, transmit it, amplify it, etc.
