Can someone tell me, where does the detail come from? is it from the source component- CDP? amp, or from the speakers? or maybe a combination of all parts?

The detail is all there in the source. I suppose it begins with the CDP being able to dig up as much as possible of what is there on the disk. After that I've always just assumed that it is up to the rest of the components to do their best not to lose that detail. Nothing that has been been lost or distorted higher upstream can be put back in by interconnects, amps, speaker cable or speakers, but they all do play important roles in preserving or even coloring the original information as they convert it, transmit it, amplify it, etc.

If it's not there in the first place, no amp or speaker can make up for it. If the amp can't pass it on, no speaker can make up for it. If the speaker can't produce it, forget it

Its defo the cd player. I had a bit of a home test recently myself when i was thinking of changing my player. I used my audiolab amps and my Dali's, and tried my player against an old Technic's player, a marantz one and my paganini. You could hear the difference via all 3, the high end paganini won sound wise hence its status.

It was a suprise to hear the difference between them. Reminded me years ago from when at the time i had a (very good at the time) marantz cdp and a sony amp, and went to listen to the then latest arcam cdp with a nad amp and was blown away by the detail..

Kind of obvious.

The Media used. By the time it reaches your speakers/headphones it's been altered/degraded in one way or another. Even if everything is done in the digital domain the speaker/headphone drivers will impart their sonic signature.

2nd that, most half decent cd players can extract enough infomation from the disc to please even those who has golden ears, however the rest of the chain must be able to pass that infomation on .
