I was about to buy me the Denon RCD-M37 but at the same shop it was possible to buy the Denon PMA-500ae and the Denon DCD-500ae for just a little more (it still is a few days more). I did not have the possibilty to listen to them an compare them.

What HiFi has given the RCD-M37 five stars and it is one of the best mini's. What HiFi gave the PMA-500ae only two stars....

It is not easy for me to determine whether the mini has the best sound or should I go for the amp/cd combo.

(I have my own speakers and will run either a pair of B&W V201 (old ones from the early 90's) or a pair of Canton LE 120 - depending on which pair i prefer when I get the stereo home).

(EDIT) Does any one in here have a comment - or has any one listened to both the RCD-M37 and the PMA-500ae and has any comments, ideas or good advices?

I can only say that I'm thrilled with the former and can't comment on the latter. The question goes begging, though, as to why you couldn't compare them in the shop? That is how you would have made a decision by listening to them * confused*

I have the RCD -M37 as a second system with the same speakers, speaker wire and stands as Sizzers and I can only say it all sounds exceptional. You won't be disappointed with it.

Thank you for your comments - both of you

. You confirm my idea of the RCD-M37 as a good buy

.

The only reason for not buying the other day was this offer on the PMA-500, DCD-500 combo

It is a good buy. Know nothing about your speakers so blame them if you don't like it! lol

Sizzers:It is a good buy. Know nothing about your speakers so blame them if you don't like it! lol

Being a copy cat I echo that!

DM37 all the way for me. Lovely little unit. Mirroring the above comments ' You won't be disappointed'

The 37 seems to suite a good selection of speakers so I reckon you'll be ok. I'm using MA BR1s and its a great sound.

Finally I bought the Denon PMA-500, DCD-500 combo. I use QED Performance 2 between amp and CD. Speakers are Canton LE 120.

I am pleased, and I cannot understand why the PMA-500ae only got 2 stars. One of my friends own an NAD C320BEE and we took his amp over to my place. The NAD and the Denon do things different - but none of them fails. Nad is moving on where the Denon are a bit more gentle to details. The NAD bass is pumped where the Denon is more in balance. None of them fails.

Anyway - thank you for the advices.
