As someone
new to AV, I have been a regularly using the What Hi-Fi site and forums to get
advice on a new AV setup. After reading
the reviews and the excellent advice from the forum, I am now the proud owner
of a Panasonic 42G10B TV, Denon 1AVR1910 AV Amp and Kef 2005-3 Surround
Speakers. I am using a PS3 as a Blue Ray
Player and a Virgin Media plus box.

The problem
I am having is the Denon does not seem to want to recognise the surround sound
input from the PS3 or Virgin Plus Box and defaults to Stereo. I am connecting both using QED Performance
HDMI cables. I have checked the settings
on the PS3 and the Amp and can't seem to see what is wrong. Any help would be much appreciated.

Have you checked that both the PS3 and Virgin box are set to output multichannel sound via HDMI, not stereo?

Hi Andy

I have set the Audio Outputs on the PS3 to HDMI, Automatic and the BD/DVD Audio Output Format(HDMI) to Linear PCM. The Amp is now showing Multi In and seems to be playing in surround sound OK.

As for the V+ box the only Audio setting I can see is the HDMI Audio Overide which is set to Off. When I select On, a message appears which suggest the Amp would then need to be connected using the Optical Out Port. I seem to recall in a previous post that this may be the solution.

Did you disable HDMI Audio in Input Assign Menu?
Each HDMI assign can use O1/O2 or C1/C2, when the setting is blank, audio goes over HDMI.
