You won't go wrong with a Yamaha. It'll be close in terms of performance with the Denon I expect, but personally speaking I have always loved the look and build quality of Yamaha kit, and I'd probably go that way anyway...

Just purchased a yamaha DSP-Z7 from Musicraft in Derby after months of consideration.i must admit i kept huggling just to make sure it was the right equipment/receiver to partner my Av unit as i was looking at going down the ATC line.

The Yamaha Z7 is a great bit of kit which will drive the ATC happily and am glad i laid my hands on them as they are in short supply but Rick at Musicraft"popcorn moments" was very helpful and was able to get me a brand new boxed.

Now that i am in the AV mode i can look at acquiring some speakers with the tutelage of forum members and Rick to make the right decisions.

Many thanks to all who helped me make my decision.

Another vote for the Yamaha 'Z7. Here in Australia, the 'Z7 is significantly cheaper than the Denon AVR4310 - about 750GBP cheaper.

I personally don't feel that Denon A/V Receivers are a step above other manufacturers, at all. Sure, they have many fancy logos on the fascias of their products and their brochures are brimming with features listings, and their build quality is very good (and most of the models bar the lowest models are manufactured in Japan), but for me, they sound a little too closed-in and are way over-priced.

In regards to availability (or shall I say un-availability) of the Yamaha 'Z7, I was speaking with one of my friendly local retailers, and he informed me that the 'Z7 is unavailable for MONTHS here in Australia. Yamaha had certainly under-estimated how popular the 'Z7 would be!

In fact, there is a special here in Australia, for the flag-ship 'Z11 with a Yamaha Blu-ray Disc Player - for AUD$6,500.00 - about 3,300GBP - for the 'Z11 AND Yamaha Blu-ray Disc Player!

Hi dantan

Yes the DSP-Z7 is a stunning piece of kit. I think it is the finest vfm AV amplifier (even at £1960) currently on the market.

Thanks

Rick @ Musicraft
