Ive just read the review for the New denon 2500 transport bd player & an excellent review it is, its the kind of review i expected from a Denon product but id like to know how much better or (if the same) than it is against the pioneer lx70a? I was originally holding out for this denon player but couldnt wait so i opted for the pioneer, so would it be worth upgrading from my pioneer to the denon? or to just leave it? Dont get me wrong i am very very happy with my pioneer but the denon sounds even better!! Any suggestions?

I have the denon and it is fantastic. You should save your pennies and save up for a Kuro t.v. You will see a big improvement with a 24ps signal and pitch blacks over your current set.

I cant comment on the lx70a, however i was awaiting the lx71 but it seems to be forever delayed. The lx70a is regarded as a fantastic player, and the lx71 apparently an improvement, but having read the review of the denon, ive opted for one of these and had mine delivered 2 days ago. What i can say is that this machine is solidly built, and through my 5090 kuro, im getting a fantastic picture and sound to match through my 905. The depth of colour and the definition of objects is astonishing. Ive rewatched apacolypto which i originally watched on my ps3 and there is a massive difference in the picture and sound. The trees, foliage, stunning scenery is a good example of what this player is capable of with a dcent panel and decent cables.

True its only a profile 1.1, personally im not too concerned about that as ive bought it to spin discs and watch the movies. And another important factor which swayed me to this machine is the fact that the dvd playback is truly second to none. I was considering buying a seperate dvd player, but ive tested a few dvds and it destroys anything my ps3 was capable of even with the 905 helping with the scaling.

Ultimately Jase, if you can, see if a retailer will kindly loan you a unit and you can then test it at home with your current kit and judge for yourself how it compares to your pioneer and if its worth the upgrade or not. Good luck

Thankyou for your view asif, ive taken everything on board what youve explained etc i think im going to loan the denon from my local retailer as theyll do that for me no problems (ive been a customer for over 20yrs with em)i can say that the pioneer lx70a is a fantastic picture & sound & has had the best reviews for a bluray player up until now, until this denon 2500. Ive never contemplated wanting another player but i have to say that i am tempted in the denon as ive always been a fan of denon stand alone dvd players & i love there tank like build!! So i believe an audition is required for peace of mind, i shall post my verdicts accordingly ha. Thanks again

Struggling to think of a reason why you'd need anything more than the Denon if you have an AV amp with HDMI inputs.

After all, the decoding will be offboard anyway, so if it's as good as it sounds, then that's the BluRay & DVD sorted for the foreseeable future.

Clare Newsome:We've reviewed it in our November issue - just out here in the UK. The review will be online here very shortly....

Thanks Clare - waiting for the carrier pigeons to bring it to Brisbane!

Thanks for the review - hopefully my mag will turn up shortly. So as I'm clear on this - the transport can effectively be plugged straight into a tv with HDMI? So its pretty irrelevant what picture processing technology your av amp / receiver has? The reason I ask is that there's lots of discussion over the respective quality of the various picture processing chips built into the myriad of av amps - but in this instance its all moot really as the pic goes right though to the tv anyways? excuse me if they're daft questions - just trying to get my head around it.
