1. Received a new 2310 today, hooked it up to 5.1 system (RX8av), receiver does not turn on. Red ring flashes at 0.5sec interval. All connections well terminated.

2. Ok, disconnect everything -> same thing, red light flashes with 0.5 sec intervals.

3. Connect only pair of front speakers, neat and tidy terminations, no contact with back panel - still does not work.

Anything else I need to check/try before returning this junk and getting a different brand?

Thanks for your advice!

that's pretty much describes it - the lights go on for 2sec then off and flashing red light. the damn thing would not stay on at all.

i this may be somewhat acceptable on a $100 stereo, but not on a 700 quid receiver :(

Every manufacturer has its lemons, whether due to transit damage or whatever. I'd get it swapped out, and I'm sure you'll be happy with the replacement.

i am not taking this thing to a retailer myself :) - they will have to pick it up, especially since i've paid for delivery.

shall see tomorrow what this retailer is planning to do.

Andrew, I am sure you are right and the replacement will be faultless. But should someone have to replace an item which costs 700? It would cost 1 pound to test the receiver post assembly.

yep, authorised retailer listed on denon website. pick-up from the store was free, however I've paid to get it delivered together with the rest of the system

Ah right. Well, as I said, I suspect transit damage. Products are batch-tested in and after assembly - I know, I've seen many manufacturers' plants - so it's possible something has gone wrong between factory and your home.

It would seem only fair that the retailer arranges pick-up and replacement at its cost, which it can then take up with Denon. Not your problem...

David, I somewhat disagree. We, as buyers of hi-fi equipment, are paying for feature, design, quality and brand. People reading this forum will know about DOA 2310. Damage to reputation is done already.

Anyway, spent too much time on this thing tonight already and don't want to waste your time guys. I'll update you tomorrow.

thanks for the support!

I bought a Tag AV32r DAB back in the late 90's, rrp on this was close to £4k. It died within the first week. Case in point (and no, it didn't get replaced, they would only repair it).

This is down to the costcutting that manufacturers are forced to undertake because their products are demanded as cheap possible. Maybe if you added about 20% to every product, it would help toward a greatly reduced number of failures within the first year. But the majority would prefer to save 20%......

try this, disconnect and reconnect all cables and make sure they are all correct. make sure the unit is well ventilated i had to cut out the rear of my oak unit because it kept tripping the thermal cut out switch then re-set the microprocessor by doing the following

1. turn off main unit using on/off on the main unit

2. press on/off while simultaniosly pressing surround mode and surround mode on the main unit

3. once the display starts flashing at intervals of about 1 second, release the 2 buttons.

if in step 3 the unit does not flash in intervals of one second start over from step 1

if this does not work then contact the supplier for a replacement unit

Well, the replacement denon 2310 is in place. you were right, what a gem. pure direct on rx8 is marvelous (sufficient bass extension). still trying to work out best settings but very-very happy.

ps. I must say, i was extremely impressed with customer service of Synergy SAV. The guys replaced the reciever on Sunday!

Thanks everyone for your advices

vr5,

Without opening up a can of worm, have you replaced the mains cable with something a bit more expensive?

Just added a Chord Power Chord to my 2310 and ------WOW!

All the artists I have listened to so far sound like they are in the room with me!! It sounds so realistic, and the bass extention is, quite frankly, worrying for the neighbours, and that's without using the sub!!!

Had the Chord superscreen on it before, but this Power Chord takes it to a totally new level!!
