Hey all.

Need some advice/confirmation regarding my TV and peripherals set-up please….

So here is what I have: Sony 46” TV, SKY HD Box, PS3, Multi region DVD player/recorder and a Denon 1910 amp (with 6.1 speaker set-up)

So how do I connect them all up ? Is this anywhere near correct?

1. Connect TV to Denon via HDMI

2. Connect PS3 to Denon via HDMI

3. Connect Sky HD Box to Denon via HDMI…

4. Connect Sky HD Box to Denon via Optical cable (for sound, boxes do not output DD5.1 over HDMI)”

5. DVD Player (no HDMI out) to Denon via ???? for picture and another for sound?

Also what way do I connect the speakers into the Denon 1910?? I have for Surround a Rear Left, Rear Right & Rear Centre and then a Front Left, Front Right & Front Centre. Denon has following speaker connector groups:

Front A:Right and Left (so presume just connect Front Left & Right speakers into here)

Front B:Right and Left available

Surround Back/Amp Assign:Right and Left (so presume just connect

Rear Left & Right speakers into here) ???

Centre: Which centre (front or rear) do I connect here?

Surround:Right and Left

So where does the Rear Center one go??

appreciate the help

So where does the Rear Center one go?? i believe in the manual on page 6 it is classed as the surround Back also referring to page 10

I was under the impression from your op that you were going to connect the sky box via the hdmi to the amp & run it with the amp on which is connected to the tv via hdmi.

Hi again Paul,

That is what I intend to do if that's the best approach to take ?

So by choosing to "connect the sky box via the hdmi to the amp & run it with the amp on which is connected to the tv via hdmi", I would still get HD quality picture and all SKY TV sound thru the amp...?

I am a bit novicey on these things so just wondered if I was losing any of the Sky HD benefits by not having the TV connected directly to the Sky HD box....but I presume that the Denon passes the HD quality picture from the Sky HD box via the amp to the TV...Is that correct? If so, then that is the way I will go......just dont want to be paying for HD and not getting the full benefit of it...!!

thanks again

Hi,

Your better off connecting the sky box directly to the tv via hdmi then connecting it to the denon via fibre optic cable.

All the others connect to the tv via the denon.

The rear center speaker should be connected to the Left speaker output of the 'surround rear/amp assign' section, but make sure in your denon's setup menu for the speakers that you've changed the 'back surround' from '2sp' to '1sp' (sp = speakers) then run the auto calibration.

No problem TripMeUp

Yes you should get a very good HD picture & SD as it can upscale it. As to the sound if the sky box which i admit i know little about doesnt put out audio via the hdmi you will have to connect it up optically which i believe the sky box has. I run my Virgin HD box through mine & it seems to give a better picture on SD than going directly to the TV, on HD i cant see any difference which ever way its connected. It all boils down to whether you want the amp turned on everytime.
