Hello

My first post as I'm a newbie to the 21st century and technology. Just got sky HD,a panasonic TH - 42PZ85B, a sony DAV-IS10 surround system and a panasonic blue ray player which will come in the next 2 weeks

I have connected my TV to the sky box with a hdmi and all is fine. I have also connected my surround system to the tv with a hdmi and it appears to be working well when I tried a DVD earlier.

My question is....Is that all I have to do? Two leads seems too easy to me especially as I have been reading your forums for ages and I was dreading setting up everything myself.

I know I cant get my sky to play through the surround system so I assume I need something else - Can someone please confirm this would be a digital coaxial cord or a digital optical cord (dont really understand what either are)

Also a problem I have is after I have played a dvd on the surround system and turned it off, I can't get any sound through my sky box. Unpluging it at the wall sorts it all out and the sound comes back via sky again, but I'm sure there is an easier way than this

Any advice would be really greatly appreciated

Thanks

Mark

You need an optical digital cable from the optical output on the Sky+ box to the input on the Sony system - that will give you sound from Sky through the system, and Dolby Dgital surround on those programmes broadcast with it.

When you get the Panasonic you will have a a problem in that the Sony can't handle the HD audio available on Blu-ray Disc, so you'll get the better picture but only the standard Dolby Digital, etc., sound.

You need to connect the Blu-ray Disc player to the TV via HDMI, of course, and an electrical/coaxial digital connection from the Panasonic's digital out to the Sony system. Set the Panasonic to output standard Dolby Digital/DTS audio from its digital output, and you'll be all sorted.

Thanks Andrew for your prompt and plain English reply. I'm off out this morning to get the cables so hoprefully this afternoon I'll have everything sorted.

Thanks again

Can you tell me please Andrew if I connected the coaxil connection from my blu ray disc player to the tv instead of the sky box, what difference would it make. All I have noticed is I can control the volume from my sky remote. Would the sound quality be a lot better just following what you have suggested

Thanks

If the TV has a coaxial digital in, you're just connecting the sound directly to the TV, and missing out the Sony system. So no surround sound at all from Blu-ray.

Stick to my Plan A.

Thanks Andrew

I have a coaxial from the BR player, but the sony system has a digital in as opposed to out which you have mentioned

Will this make a difference?

Thanks

Sorry ignore that post, I just re-read what you said and saw my error

My apologies

my only problem is I am receiving the 5.1 from my sony surround system, but not when I play a isc via the BR layer - set up isHDMI from tv to sony surround and seperate HDMI to BR player. Optical cable from out on sky to input on surround system and coaxial fom BR player to sony surround

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong folks

Help would me much appreciated

Thanks
