Thanks David for replying I have a ton of respect for you and hold your opnion with a lot of weight.

im running the new Proac Studio 118's. I just bought a pre2 Dac Qx and a new 8 power out of the box so it's been sitting for a long time and it is brand new. I could literally buy 4 of those new and still be wayless than the cost of one stereo 200. Perspective I pay $750 Canadian for the 8 power and the stereo is 35-3600 new canadian. Now to be honest I have only had the 8 power playing for 3-4 days but I already find it light yet there's times when there is bottom end. The mid range is weak imo.

Many thoughts? I'm really not happy with the 8 power maybe I should buy two and mono them?

Not sure how you got a pair of 118s before we have! Maybe we're waiting for a particular finish for our demo pair...

I'm not much of a fan of using amps designed for stereo use in a mono configuration, despite the capability being included by manufacturers. I usually find that a product works best in its intended guise. Anyway, adding more 8 powers isn't really going to bring relatively subtle gains, in my opinion. Rather than adding another amp of the same quality/capability, I'd rather swap it out for a better, more capable one.

I wouldn't have thought that there would be an issue with the midrange on the Cyrus - had you heard the combination previously? Or did you hear the ProAcs on other electronics?

Thanks David for the reply. I'm in Canada and have had my proac's for about 6 weeks now and love them. There my 3rd pair maybe 4th at this point and imo better balanced than my D28's were. I'll leave that alone though. Maybe I should just shell out for the new 200 I think moving to the X power is a side ways move. Have you heard the 200? Class D has me a little nervous and there is no literature out there on that amp.

I had my proac on a 8xpd and it sounded really good. Moved into a new pre2 Dac Qx and haven't been happy since slot of resolution and information but the mid bottom lacks detail compared to the 8xpd. Would the X power just be a side ways move? Due to room it's cyrus

Interesting.

I am on my second cyrus system (exactly the same as the first one which I had to sell at the time unfortunately). I have always thought the sweet spot is the 8 series integrated with a PSX-R. - Anything beyond that gave marginal improvements considering the substantial increase in price. There were better options at those elevated hights. I did have access to most cyrus combinations available and tried many.

Having said that, my system is a few years old and I have not heard the 200 or 300 so can't comment.

Hope you can sort your system out but failing that, why not just revert to what you liked (8xpd) and spend the money on a nice holiday? :)

Hey drummerman I already have the Pre2 Dac in my system and gave back the 8xpd as a trade in so its a little late. I find the amp section of my 4 box system the definalty weak link. I could buy another 8 power for cheap but David said it wouldnt change the sound just more power. Its one of those things there is periods of thunder bass clean bass fast but it doesnt have the subtley and omph that the 8xpd did.

What speakers are you using Mike?

You should find the Stereo 200 quite a step up from the 8 Power as it's certainly a justifiable upgrade over an X Power.
david have you heard the stereo 200? I'm looking for its sound characteristics
