Hi

I just bought a brand new Cyrus 8vs2 amp at the bargain price of £599. Bargain in my opinion as I listened to it vs Roksan Kandy and a Rotel for comparison. To my ears, the Cyrus wiped the floor with the Roksan - much more detailed and was a different class to the admittedly cheaper Rotel.
I couldnt work out which speakers tho. I listened to the B&W 685s which I was really disappointed with (and not just vs the Cyrus). Too mid-rangey and not detailed enough for me. The Epos Mi12s which are meant to be a good match with the Cyrus left me a little cold - nice detailed sound, but a little unengaging.. I've just auditioned the CM5's which are definitely a step in the right direction (& some Roksan speakers which are not the best match). The shop didnt have many other brands to choose from.

Anyone got any suggestions for different speakers to try out with my Cyrus. Have amp will travel !! I don't want to spend more than 800 quid otherwise I'll be in the dog-house...

It would help forum members to offer appropriate advice from their personal experience if you let us know for example, the music source you will be using with the amp, the type of music you listen to, the size and furnishings/acoustics of your listening room, your budget for the speakers and whether stand mounted ones only. Thanks.

You might like the PMC DB1i that retail for about £800. Some dislike their bass and some find them slightly zingy. Not sure if Spendor S3e would float your boat but they are very detailed and image very well. They go for about £800 too. Some find these a little sleepy.

If I were you I'd trawl the world for a pair of used or ex-demo Dynaudio Audience 52SE (note the SE here). Superb speakers that use drivers from the Countour range. A few months ago I saw some ex-demo ones going for less than £800. They're quite current hungry and would benefit greatly from an 8 Power or X Power, but hey, hifi upgrading is fun! They're better than the Focus range too

Personally I think that a good pair of floorstanders is the way to go, delivering much more bass, weight and scale to the sound, I think my friend described as the sound becoming much deeper (when compared to bookshelves) which in turn he felt gave the speakers much more life.

My speakers are terrific in that regard, don't need a massive amp to drive them extremely well and are anything but sleepy. Of course I own just a humble NAD C352 so I can't comment on whether it would be a good speaker for your amp. However you might want to listen to the Monitor Audio RS6's which I have now heard and was very impressed with them also.

Hi D

Please also consider ATC's SCM11 at that price level. We have sold ATC speakers to owners of various Cyrus amps including the 8 and all customers are extremely happy.

The ATC's have a clean, clear, precise, uncoloured, neutral, natural and powerful presentation which will help the presentation of the 8 to come through.

I can only tell you what I did, which was to go for the ProAc Studio 110's. I felt they were much better than the Spendors. I also auditioned PMC, which I really liked, however, I got the ProAc's ex-demo in perfect condition for a good discount, so couldn't afford to turn them down. I am delighted with them though.

Hi df,

I`m running a pair of Aurousal A1 MK2`s, with the 8vs2 (they go well together), a wonderfully open emotional sound with a great soundstage and imaging but not speakers for loud rock music or drum and bass etc. Depending on what type of music you like, they are well worth an audition. You might hate them but you might fall in love with a single drivers sound.

Hi,

You can probably guess which speakers I would go for! ÿI do like the dynaudios as well, but as the spendors were £410, I couldn't really say no (nor the GF).ÿ
