Hi Guys

As my post says it's crunch time cause I am finally going to splash out and by my first system, really really need help on this.I know you guys get requests like this by the bucket load but our assistance is really valued in making a decision as I dont want to make a mistake. Anyways here is what I have been quoted by the onkyo guys in Sa.

I'd like to know from you guys if this a good deal, especialy with the polk speakers quoted as I cant find reviews for them converted to pounds this setup would be 1850 pounds. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated, also considering the bw 685 setup reviewed in the last what hifi. Here is the current possible setup, will be used for home cinema and music - the devil combo :)

Onkyo Tx-sr 606 receiver

Onkyo Dx-7355 cd player

Polk Rti-A5 floorstand speakers

Polk Csi-A4 center speaker

Polk Rti-A1 surrounds

Polk Dsw-Pro500 active subwoofer

Thanks

Guys

Sorry Cap'n - things went a bit bonkers here with the site relaunch, so was able to spend less time answering questions.

I'd have no problem with the 606 receiver, but I wouldn't bother with the 'matching' DVD player. Something like one of the entry-level Denons - the 1740 or 1940 - would do a much better job. Even better would be the Marantz DV7001, which is a fine all-rounder of a player, but it is £600. If this too rich for you, the DV6001 is almost as good, and half the money.

Not familiar with the those Polks - the company tends to do less in the UK than in other markets - , but would wholeheartedly endorse the idea of the B&W set-up with the 606 and one of the players I've suggested above.

Thanks Andrew,as always your assistance is always valued and taken to heart especialy by us newbies,it's a bit of a master yoda show young luke the ropes!lol.

Info about the polks are really hard to find had a listen to them and they sound great but couldnt do a side by side comparision with the B&W

So still kinda torn, gonna give the b&w a listen and see, as the polks offer floorstander fronts at more or less the same price as the b&w's. As for the rest after following your advice the 606 stays but the onk player is gonna get replaced by anyone those you mentioned, just depends on which one I can find localy in Sa

Decisions,decisions!

Ps new site look awesome and the new tutorials videos are a great idea along with the new sections!
