I apologise for the number of questions ive asked recently but now about to start ripping my cd collection and as ive done this twice in the past want to make this the last time as i feel ive lost enough of my life sitting by my mac doing this! lol im using itunes and will rip it in apple lossless any other settings i should change? or use a different format?

Just a quick thing i ripped a cd in lossless the other day was amazed how good it sounded when i compared it with my cd8x borrowed a dac for the weekend and so far ive blind tested it with 3 people, 2 preferred the rip the other couldnt tell any difference and thats with my cd8x using chord chameleon silver plus and the rip using a much cheaper qed cable when i switched them over today it improved even more, i even borrowed a stereo amp and it brought it out even more very impressed!

I think there is an option to turn on Error Correction in iTunes. You should have that selected to ensure that you have the best quality rips.

You don't have a Windows PC around, because nothing beats EAC with Secure Rip (or dbpoweramp with it's equivalent--it's not free though; EAC is).

EAC guarantees an exact copy, but seems a palaver compared to apple lossless via iTunes....

Is your AAC library in Finder > Music > iTunes?

Sounds like you need to start a new library on your NAS, import all the lossless files into that library. Then when you start up iTunes hold down alt and you can then choose which library you want to open.ÿ

I'm actually doing exactly the same as you now (decided it was about time I got everything in lossless). As Octopo says, hold down the Alt key, then open iTunes. You can then create a new Library and choose for that to be on your NAS drive. You can then start importing into the new library on your NAS using Apple Lossless. If you need access to your old AAC library, again just hold down Alt and open iTunes and you can select it (will probably be under the Music folder on your home drive if you didn't change it from default).ÿ

That is debatable. It is a personal choice. I have used EAC and been perfectly happy, moreso than with dBPoweramp (which isn't free).

What do you mean, the NAS isn't listed in the finder? You just need to choose a location, iTunes will then build all the related files it needs.

Hi got there in the end for some reason when i went to create new library itunes didnt come up with the nas drive which is on the desktop so i ended up creating a new library just on a new folder then when in itunes changed the itunes folder location just didnt know why it wouldnt let me select it in the first place.

Indeed, hence my use of the word "seems" (the "to me" being silent). Plenty of people on here are perfectly happy with the combination, I'm just saying my own investigations of those products made me think it was more trouble than it was worth (to me

)

One day when I have lots of time on my hands (like, not now, unemployment has made me busier it seems) I'll get an apple lossless file, convert it to FLAC, and compare it with AccurateRip on my Windows machine (if that's even possible).
