I have my Sony CRT TV, Sky+ Box, Divx DVD Recorder and DVD Home cinema all hooked up via different scarts. Everything works fine and has done for a long time and for best viewing I watch My Sky through AV1 - even though it is also on Program 5. Consequently, if I turn on the TV, then the Sky Box, it automatically changes from Program 5 and finds AV1. The home cinema is on AV2 and the Divx DVD Recorder works on a secondary connection on AV1 when in playback and has a toggle between TV & DVD.

On Sunday I went to watch a Divx DVD which by default will load on AV1 when loading the DVD and play options. The screen is black and no menu visible. Went to Sky and this is viewable on Prog 5, but when going to AV1, the picture is displayed, but the sound is really low and the only way to make it audible is put the volume control up to almost max, but of course this is super load through Prog 5.
Consequently why have I lost playback/sound on AV1 when no cables have been removed. I even rebooted the Sky box, just in case, but no joy?

Have you checked to see if one of your connections hasn't worked loose ? Just check and make sure all the connections are fully pushed in. I used to get this all the time with one of my scart connections on my old crt tv, every few weeks the scart would work itself loose from the back of the tv.

Would be much better if everything used "PC" style connectors. Plug in as normal and then screw in the 2 thumb screws to stop them working loose over time.

This is a good point. They had every chance to learn from the past and make HDMI a good solid push and lock connection - why on earth didn't they?!

Thank you all for your replies. This system isn't my own it is a friend from work so i posted his query here as i had no idea how to resolve it apart from checking that the scart leads were working.
