Connecting tv to internet

I've just bought a Panasonic TX-P42G15, and it has some facilities to be enjoyed using an internet connection. I wondered if I have to use a Lan cable to a hub or router, which is upstairs, or whether it can be connected via Lan cable to my laptop, and then use the laptop wi-fi connection? Can anyone help, please?

I wouldn't bother trying to use your laptop's internet connection, there lies a world of pain (and distinct lack of movement, unless it's pulling the television over by accident). You would be better off buying a thirty-odd quid wireless access point or extender which can sit behind the telly and extend your network from upstairs to down.

Thanks, John, that sounds a better option than miles of wire up the stairs, or pulling the telly over.
