greetings,

i have a sony viao laptop that has USB and headphone outputs.

i want to connect to my cyrus DAC is it possible to convert the usb to a digital coax in anyway or will i just have to connect using the headphone jack straight to my amp?

regards chin

Have you checked if the laptop has a optical digital output - many do and it's usually combined with the headphone socket.

Which Cyrus DAC is it? And does it have an optical input? I would expect the Sony to have an optical digital output, usually combined with the headphone socket

the DAC is a cyrus DAC-X and the sony laptop doesnt have a optical out i dont think....

I have a creative USB soundblaster for my laptop. That has an optical out, so that might be a way forward.

thanks im looking at this online now is it possible to use this without all the sound enhancing modes?

Which Vaio model do you have...?

The DAC-X has two optical inputs, so you could use one of these

between the laptop's USB and one of the DAC's optical inputs, assuming there isn't already an optical out on the Vaio.

Mine is ancient (by electronics standards) and it can send the sound through withoug any tinkering. I

thanks for the excellent help all,

my last question is..... would a dedicated sounblaster dvice such as a notebook soundcard improve the sound quality coming from my laptop than say the device mentioned that just converts usb to optical out?
