I have a macbook pro 13 inch and i want to hook it up to my panasonic TX-L37D25 and get the best possible picture and sound transfered onto my television.

I have a mini display port on my macbook and the television has various HDMI connections. Not sure if it has a DVI connection.

This is what cables i understand i need:

Mini-Display Port - HDMI

HDMI - HDMI

Audio Cable

Will using these cables enable me to transfer sound and visual from my Macbook to my tele getting optimum results??

Will i be able to hook it up to surround sound and what is the best type of cable to use for the audio??

How good is the quality of the picture? Thinking about getting a decent blue-ray player but wont bother if i can simply watch films on my tele through my laptop with a similar picture quality.

Thanks

Paul.

Is your Macbook Pro a 2010 model? If thats the case you should be able to pass audio through the mini display port. Not all dongles work however...

I got my mini plug to hdmi cable converter on ebay. Its the plug on the side of the macbook with the square inside the 2 lines. For audio i bought a mini toslink converter also from ebay for about £1 This clicks onto the end of the standard optical and hooks into my amp. The Headphone socket is also the optical output on the macbook!

You have two options, you can use a separate audio connector, or you can use one of these:

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/scan-mini-display-port-to-hdmi-plus-audio-allows-usb-for-audio?source=froogle&utm_campaign=googlebase&utm_medium=googlebase&utm_source=googlebase&utm_term=Scan+Mini+Display+Port+to+HDMI+%2B+Audio%2FALLOWS+USB+FOR+AUDIO

This allows you to take a usb feed for audio through your hdmi cable. Have no idea if your tv is better at converting the audio than the macbook, so don't know if it would be worth doing. A separate audio cable would definitely be cheaper. It may be your only option if your tv does not have assignably audio inputs however.
