I've just had my new V+ box installed and connected to my TV via HDMi. I have connected the red and white audio in from my 'old' DVD player (Philips MX3800D) to the tv via scart to scart adapter thats fits in to Ext RGB on TV. I can't get sound from the speakers, although I can hear something (not audibles, more of a hissing) coming through when I crank up the vol to the max. I've set the sound source on TV to External Speakers but no joy. Anyone got any ideas what I may have done wrong? I've checked the speaker connections and they seem ok. Thanks

I'd imagine it's because you're connecting the Phillips home cinema system to an INPUT on the TV, whereas you want to be connecting it to an OUTPUT.

You haven't said what TV it is but, hopefully, it'll have a pair of red and white audio sockets on the back, which are OUTPUTS, connect this to the red and white audio INPUTS on the Phillips.

Also you probably want to do the same for the Virgin box, take an RCA cable from the analogue stereo (Red and white) output on the Virgin box) and plug it into the AUX audio in on the Phillips. Sadly the Phillips doesn't have a digital audio input, otherwise you'd have been better off using that from the Virgin box, as then you'd be able to get Dolby Digital, where broadcast.

Then select the appropriate source on the Phillips (TV is you're watching via the TVs in-built tuner), AUX if watching Virgin, and you should get your sound.

I've just remembered you've got a Samsung 8-series LCD, so, alternatively, chop the Philips in for a new Samsung HDMI equipped Blu-Ray home cinema system, they have a digital audio input you can plug the Virgin box into and using the Samsung link feature, will allow you to use the same remote for most of the functions.

Does involve spending money though, which may or may not be a downside, depending on how you look at these things.

Thanks. Any suggestions for a decent Samsung BD player which wouldn't break the bank?
Was going to opt for the new PS3 slim but still undecided at the moment.
