What is the best way to connect the video feed from a Freeview box to a modern AV amp? My Humax 8000t has an RGB scart which is fine for a direct connection to the TV but you can't plug that into the amp.

The Humax doesn't have a component connection so the only alternative is to output a composite signal which seems a terrible idea.

Yup, you've hit the nail on the head. Basically, unless your box has either a component or an HDMI out, it's more than likely better to hook it up direct to the TV via RGB Scart (though it's worth a try - after hooking my Freeview PVR up via S-Video to my Onkyo 905, there wasn't a lot in it, but the Scart was still better). It really comes into its own with a projector I think, where the projector generally doesn't have an RGB Scart in anyway, so upscaling via the AV amp then makes more sense if it has a decent upscaling chip in it.

You can get SCART-to-component adapters - maplin do a SCART to 4 phono adapter (RGB + sync) - but I don't know whether that would work for an amp that only has RGB connections - it may need something else to mix the sync back in....

I remember Paultheflimfan did this and reported it didn't help the picture quality due to all the conversions going on. I'll try and find the post.
EDIT - Here it is I think and Andrew E also had the same result from the look of it.
