I was wanting to upgrade at home to have a blue ray player and a home cinema system but I'm on a very tight budget. I was wondering if it would be possible to buy a blue ray player and a dvd home cinema and connect the 2, or use the blue ray instead of the dvd in the set up? If I can I think this could halve what I would otherwise have to spend, which I can't afford.

The problem with connecting a BD player to a DVD system is that it's unlikely the system will be able to handle the high-definition sound from the Blu-ray player, so will offer no sonic advantages over playing DVDs, even though of course the picture quality will be better.

What's your budget? In the January issue of the magazine, just on sale, we have a Group Test of complete Blu-ray systems starting from £400.

Thanks for this. £400 would be my maximum, so i will get a copy of the mag tomorrow and get some further ideas.

The Sony BDV-E300 (Group Test winner) or the Panasonic SC-BT200 (2009 Blu-ray system award winner), both priced at £400.00, possibly lower if you scan the internet, are right up your alley.
