I have been reading reviews all evening and I am confused as to what TV to go for. I am looking for a 42 inch tv and it will be my first flat screen. My living room is not that bright but the window does reflect on my current tv so not sure about Plasma although I do like the reviews Plasma gets. Panasonic would appear to be tops. I am also looking at Sony, LG or may Samsung although their sound is not supposed to be good so open to suggestions. Don't know much about LED so don't know if it is worth it.. I am sure this question is constantly being asked but I really would welcome any suggestions please as really looking forward to my first flat screen and I won't be buying another tv for along time after this purchase. Thanks.

It would be worth knowing what you will watch (SD or HD, Blu-Ray etc), how many connections you need HDMI etc. and how far you will sit as these fundamentally determine which tv is best for you

Also Sony and Samsung don't make a 42" lcd, so i guess i would definetly look at the Panasonic 42G20 Plasma and then if i was to consider a Lcd it would have to be a Philips. But you will have to take into consideration room lighting, viewing distances, sd, hd sources, connectivity, surround sound system. All these will play a factor on your decision as well as budget of course, looking at a 40" Lcd will also give you many more options.Once you determined the size and technology whether it's plasma, lcd, led lcd, then i would look at some reviews and speccs. Then i would go and demo your shortlist, this is the tricky part finding the models from one place is difficult and several shops may be needed. This causes problems because of how the shops have their tv's setup and how strong their signal strength is.But i would check for motion is sports is your thing and sd if your going to use it with out sky etc,as for blu-ray this seems to fair well on most current tv's, so it wwould also be worth taking either your own dvd player or blu-ray player and trying them out.Don't be afraid to ask questions and play around with settings and finally price negotiation.

Thanks Guys for your help. I will be sitting about 2.5 metres from tv. Would 42" be too big or 37" better. I am looking at the Panasonic Plasma 600 htz. Surround sound, Sky and DVD connection. What do you think?

It should be fine for 42" and i would still look at Philips and Panasonic at both sizes, they seem to make the best models imho for sd viewing.Ttry making a cutout or go to a local shop and measure the distance if you find the 42" too big drop down to a 40" although you can then only choose a LCD as plasma's don't come in that size.

Just reading a few more reviews. Is it worth getting the Panasonic G20 over S20?
