simple. I was one of the lucky ones at the Google IO who got one for free. And honest: this is the first Android tablet that I actually like. Awesome device.

Thankyou both.

The review on this 'ere site says there isn't, in fact, an iplayer app for the nexus.

Play tends to hide apps if the device is incompatiple/not officially supported, but the apk is available so you can side load it (but it isn't worth it because of the low quality streams)

I have to ask - have you changed iplayer video settings to high quality? Over wifi the picture on iplayer is good on my HOX. Not as good as tcatchup (live freeview service) but good enough.

Does the edition of Android on the Samsung support flash? Does it really make a difference that it's got 8 gig less than the "better" Nexus? You can't do a lot with 8 or 16 gig, can you?

Deleted soem of the title because the notice that it was too long came up. It wasn't too long before.

But in the Samsung, you can always add a 32GB card in the mocroSD slot, & your tablet's capacity suddenly becomes 40GB.

You should try out the Samsung before purchase though. I wasn't entirely happy with its screen response.

And no, you can't do a lot with 8 or 16GB.

It is Adobe who is withdrawing support for Flash for mobiles & not Google. The Nexus 7 with Android Jelly Bean 4.1 is the first Android device without flash suport. I don't miss Flash on my iPad.

And yes, Samsung Galaxy Tab supports flash, but you will lose out on the Jelly Bean 4.1 version of Android, which is arguably its best ever.

Thanks. I'm obviously missing something with people not missing it as it means I can't watch iplayer, youtube (though that works with the nexus of course) and, indeed, vids from many other sites, without tweaks of various kinds, doesn't it? Or is it a case of "download firefox, install flash and associate it with firefox, then all flash stuff will work"?

I may seem to be obsessing somewhat, but I'm confused.

You can download iplayer app from Google Play. I watch YouTube videos on my iPad which doesn't support flash. I can play videos from most sites on my iPad.

Flash is not the only standard for videos you know. With rise in smartphone & tablet sales, everyone is moving away from flash for making videos.

Plumped fro the Google. Picked it up at Currys a couple hours ago. The unboxing has not yet taken place.

Still like the spec of the Samsung. Might be exravagant and compare the two one day.

Not on the Nexus 7 you can't...

Possible work around though it's not flawless from my experience:
Install Firefox Beta (Firefox 15). At this time the release is still in Beta, obviously when it becomes full release there is no need to install the Beta! From your Nexus7 device from inside Firefox, download and install Adobe Flash Player 11.1_11.1.115.11.apkShutdown Firefox properly and restart it, then go to the BBC IPlayer website. From the top right hand menu in Firefox select Request Desktop Site. Then watch away in full HD Glory!

Not flawless?

So, without that workaround, there is no way of watching iplayer with the nexus 7 and the app is no good?

Anyone got experience of the other channel's players with the nexus?

Maybe my experimentation with the Samsung should be bumped up my to do list...

Well I've seen some people unable to get it to work but it should work. More pertinently, I'd imagine an iPlayer app won't be too far away and ultimately the BBC will sort it out for Android devices.

Well, performance is shakey, and I can't as yet get it into landscape, but I'm watching The Hairy Dieters as I type.

Do I just go straight to iplayer in firefox from now on?

EDIT - Now it's stopped due to insufficient bandwidth so it may not have been worth it anyway.

No idea to be honest, Ben.

EDIT - I'm only refering to iplayer, Ben. On some home screens it will not do landscape. In youtube it will if you turn it, and (it seems from the free copy of Transformers...) landscape is the only option for downloaded films.

Ah, I think I heard that something like that was out there. Cheers John.

I have spent the last couple of hours setting up email accounts on my new toy, and mucking it up most royally. Another thread for the OT&M thread, perhaps.
