Component output from blu-ray player

If you go into a shop and they have run component cable from a blu-ray player into an HD Ready TV, what is the TV receiving - 480i? Is this the same as a standard DVD player would output through component and then the TV upscales it to fit the screen?

Component is perfectly capable of transferring 1080p signals. Whether the player / TV will send / accept that format is another matter - more likely it will be in either 1080i or 720p format. What the TV does with that signal depends on the native resolution of the screen.
