Can someone please help ? I have a Philips HTS9800w home theatre system and have taken it to a Philips agent only to be told the wireless av box is not repairable and the speakers ( 6 off them) cannot be hard wired into the sub.

Is there a sub that can be added to this system so that i can hard wire the speakers into it ?

Otherwise this system being a couple of years old and you can still buy it new now is no longer any good.Poor service from Philips as you cannot repair or get parts for it.

I really don't see a way round this, short of getting Philips to supply replacements for the parts that have stopped working. Is it the receiver/amplifier for the rear speakers that has failed, or the wireless transmitter in the subwoofer used to send signal to that receiver/amp.

It could, I suppose be possible to get a subwoofer designed for a similar Philips system without the wireless rear channel feature, which may be usable with the existing rear speakers and wired connections, but you'd have to check that this would interface correctly with the system's 'head unit' to give proper control.

I find it hard to believe that Philips doesn't keep spares for a system so recent: have you tried contacting Philips customer services direct? The system was only launched in 2005, so spares really should still be available. If you click here you can start a live chat about your problem with one of the company's online advisors, which may be of some assistance, or you can call as below:

Thanks for the reply.

It's the wireless receiver that has gone wrong.

I rang Philips this morning only to be told that the part is no longer available and the system is no longer any use,i thought this was a pretty poor answeras they could not even tell me if another sub would work with this system.

Hoping to find someone who may have had this problem and sorted something out as it seems a lot of money wasted.

They are not actually Philips. They are an out-sourced callcentre who know extremely little about anything.

Well unfortunately I don't have any positive suggestion. I just wanted to make the note that all Philips consumer product enquiries are handled through that centre and there knowledge base seems to be pretty poor.

I can't see how this could be bodged, as the rear channels are output as a preout signal somewhere inside the sub to a wireless transmitter also inside the sub, So short of major surgery, and an external power amp to drive the rear speakers, there's not much that can be done.

Just a thought for the OP - are you sure the wireless receiver is dead? Could it be a case of something else in your home - wi-fi network, DECT wireless phones - interfering with it?

If I recall correctly, the only sign of life the Philips receiver gives is a blue light when it's receiving signal, so if there's radio interference it could appear dead. I seem to recall there's some kind of procedure for changing the channel on which the sub unit transmits to the wireless receiver/amp, using the menus of the main unit - have you tried cycling this to see whether they can be made to talk to each other again?

If you have, ignore me - just a Friday afternoon thought...

The wireless receiver does give a blue light but only in one setting if you try to change the setting the light goes off i suppose this is where the circuit board has gone wrong.

Thanks for the replies.

Any ideas on how i can get this running with a different amp, receiver ?

Just a thought but perhaps you could ask them for details of an authorised repair centre?

Only had chance for a quick flick on their website but it does say for details of your nearest TV repair centre contact C/S. Hopefully one of them may also deal in home theatre kit and knows what he's talking about!

I think if you change the sending channel on the main unit you have to also change the receiving button on the rear channel amp unit. Can't remember specifics, but is there a button on this to push?

Anyway, sounds like the receiver's amp may be faulty - either that or the radio link is being established but no audio signal is being transmitted.

There's really no way to use the head unit of the Philips with an external AV amp, and as I said, some serious surgery would be needed to get the sub unit to output hardwired to an external stereo amp for the rear channels, if this is even possible.

It really does sound like some conversations are required with the retailer where you originally bought the system regarding some allowance toward a complete new system.
