Class D amps

My experience with 2 class D amps is that they, unlike A/B amps, they don't have a 'hump' above a certain volume where they sound better. The sound is consistent at lower and higher volumes.

I'm sure the above would be true of better A/B amps, and of course true class A amps.

Any thoughts?

I’ve owned Primare and Nord amps that adopt different class D designs. The latter the popular Hypex modules, the former a proprietary UFPD technology.

I can’t honestly say I noticed a particular threshold in them or any previous AB amps, though of course many speakers (and ears) respond better at higher volumes. By that I mean 85dB and upwards, rather than background levels.

One of the reason I tried my class A Pass Labs amp was that so often I have to listen below realistic volumes, so I needed an amp (and my current Sf speakers) that stay ‘saturated’ sounding even when a bit quieter. My Nord + ATCs definitely did best when whacked up a bit!
