Is there any performance differences between models
PANASONIC TH42PX80 & TH42PX80B

Also

Sony KDL32W4000 & the KDL40W4000
Apart from size of screen and being LCD technology

Any advice on these choices

No difference between the top two - they are the same model, the B just stands for the British market.

As for the two Sonys, you can't just assume that the same model in a different size will perform as well as one in another size. It's been shown in the past that one size can be beat all other models in its size, whereas the same model in another size isn't as good as other sets around it. However, in this case, have a read of the reviews of the Sony KDL-32W4000 and the KDL-40W4000 - it looks like they're both fine sets.
