Cheap sound improvement for a plasma?

Hello,

I'm buying my old-ish parents a new plasma, but want to improve the sound for them. I'm looking to spend £50-100 on the sound "kit". I'm not looking for a surround sound system and they don't watch DVDs, I'm just trying to make the TV sound slightly better. Does anyone have any ideas? I was thinking a sound bar (eg Yamaha YSP-500) but they don't seem to be cheap. Could I just get them a Harman/ Kardon Soundsticks?? I know its not strictly what they're meant for, and the lack of a remote control might get annoying, but...

If you're looking to spend that kind of money you'd probably be looking at active speakers of some sort. What Hifi review these at £110.

I use the HK Soundsticks with a 22" tv and consider them just the job, they used to be connected to my iMac, but have been relegated due to the purchase of a pair of Eclipse TD307s

These come with a remote. Bit above budget but possibly could be found for less.

Many thanks for your feedback, the extra options much appreciated. Its interesting that this segement of the market is so bereft of an obvious winner given the continually poor reviews of the sounds of flatscreens.
