I have ONE OF THESE just over £200 and waterproof upto 3M which is a bonus, only 720p tho but the PQ is very good indeed

A lot of compact photo cameras do 720p video these days. this one for example:

max, i have the sanyo vpc-cg20 camcorder full 1080p and 10mp stills, cost around £150, a great little camcorder.

Or of course you could use the newer high-spec phones - iPhone 4 or some of the HTC's with the upcoming Android 2.2 update can do 720p recording. Couldn't get much more compact and potentially cheap if you needed a new phone... Though quality not as good as a dedicated cam the iPhone 4 is surprisingly decent.
