Has anyone visited the Creek Audio room at CES yet? I would particularly like to know about the new Destiny tuner mentioned on the Creek website and the new big Encore 50 speakers. Any subjective information awaited with interest. Thanks.

The Creek Audio website now has a page with their new amp, the Evolution 5350 which sits between the Evolution 2 and Destiny amps in Creek's lineup.

I guess the Destiny tuner will be added soon too. Did anyone see it at CES ?

I don't understand why anyone would be introducing a new AM/FM tuner in this day and age, given that AM is garbage and FM is within a few short years likely to be all but switched off. Who needs such a product given the proliferation of DAB and internet/freeview radio anyway? I speak as someone who already owns a pretty respectable hi-fi tuner (Magnum Dynalab 102)... who but a fool is likely to still be buying an FM tuner?

I really like the looks of Creek audio gear. How do they sound like? neutral/warm/bright? Not a lot of people on this forum use creek gear.

The addition of an HT Bypas on the 5350 is a plus point. Hope they add it to the Creek Destiny in the near future!

I would describe the sound of my Creek Destiny amps, CDP and Evo tuner as neutral. Very easy to hear what "neutral" means when compared to the sound of my Technics SUA900 MK2 and kef iQ5se's

Lots of power on tap in the amp to control dynamic swings.

I'm unsure when analogue radio transmissions will cease. There's talk on the net about it stopping in 2015 or 2017 but I just can't see it happening so soon myself. I've contacted BBC radio and Classic FM today to see if they have any up to date info but expect to get a reply along the lines of "no fixed date but not for the foreseeable future". I'll update this post if I get a response.

It does seem a bit strange that the Creek Destiny tuner information doesn't speak of a facility for digital radio. Maybe they'll offer an upgrade card or something??

No answer from the Beeb or Classic FM about how long they'll continue broadcasting on FM for.

No update about the Destiny tuner on the web in terms of reviews or features/specifications, but Audio Affair have just put the Creek Destiny tuner on their website.

The Destiny tuner is now listed on the Creek website. It is AM/FM only and has apparently had a favourable review in Hi-fi World. The output stage and power supply are better than those in the Evolution tuner and the unit is controlled by the Destiny remote. It would be a tempting upgrade for me to replace my Creek Evo tuner, but finances prohibit this at the moment :-(

There is still no clear information about if/when the analogue radio signal will be switched off, despite the governments' unlikely target date of 2015. The phrase "not for the foreseeable future" is still being banded about in political circles. My guess is that I'll still be listening to my favourite radio stations through my Creek tuner in 10 years time.

The target date is actually Dec 31st 2015 but I agree with you that DAB is unlikely to become the prime means of delivery for radio for many years (if ever) in the UK.

I had to weigh this up before investing in my current FM tuner. The mere fact that no brand-new car/van/lorry currently on sale in the UK has DAB fitted as standard (and that sales of portable DAB radios are still only a tiny 'dent' on the estimated 100 million radios in use in UK households) conspire against an FM switch-over happening in anything like the next 6 years.

It is more likely that (in the home at least) internet radio and (especially) Freeview/Satellite/cable radio usage will overtake DAB in the next few years.

Countries that have really gone all out for DAB are now using the superior DAB+ format (AAC) and left the UK government/broadcasters/offcom way behind technologically.

The problem is that DAB+ is not backwards compatible with DAB. So unless all DAB radio manufacturers include DAB and DAB+ in all of their products, the public will be have to be asked to change all of their radios - yet again - at some time in the future when/if the broadcasters eventually go over to DAB+.

Also scrapping (maybe) up to 100 million radios is a 'green' disaster and DAB uses more electricity to receive signal than FM and more energy is required to transmit effectively (due to DAB's inferior 'building penetration' compared to FM).

It's a mess and in the meantime FM works.

All of the infrastructure has been in place for decades and costs little to maintain.

There is now a picture of the Creek Destiny AM/FM tuner on the Creek website http://www.creekaudio.com/products/destiny_tuner.php

There is a "More Images" tab which shows a black version and a view or the back of the unit as well.

Would be nice to see a review in WHF....
