I currently have a 5.1 set of celestion avp 305 satalite speakers, which do a reasonable job but what i want to know is would i upset the balance of my system by upgrading my centre speaker to a traditional centre speaker? I'm happy with the surround effects that my satalites produce but i just want a speaker to handle dialog better. I've recently upgraded speaker cables and surround receiver as well.

Interesting!

I listened to the Monitor Audio Radius system - i was disapointed with the overall sound and so mixed it up a bit.
I finally settled on replacing the Radius centre with a Monitor Audio Silver RS centre and replaced the MA sub with a REL quake - the resulting improvement was massive!

My experience was that a single system was massively improved by replacing the centre speaker and sub!

Any other experiences with mixing it up anyone?

Is it a case of suck it and see with this situation?? or is there a golden rule of home cimema that i'm breaking, by tampering with a speaker package??

I don't think you're breaking a rule with this approach at all!

I ensured that all the speakers (with the exception of the subwoofer) were from the same manufacturer and demo'd it at the retailer (Sevenoaks) with all the various permutations - i simply bought the one that sounded the best!

Tamper away!

Any other experiences anyone! We're a bit on our own with this!
