Celestions

I have a chance to replace my Wharfy 9.1's with some old Celestions for next to no cost...I don't know yet which model but they will be around 17 years old and they are bulky! They could hardly be normal stand mounters but they are def not floor standers.

I have read here on threads that Celestion are now KEF? ...and most of the opinions are neutral (not very enthusiastic) .... also rather bright?

Will they be a useful upgrade to my 9.1's? .....I have a C/A 640 combo and like anything from classical to heavy rock.

The reason for asking is they would need to to be a decent upgrade to offset actually living with them due their bulk etc and I have to travel to get them.

you can still get F20 celestions wich are an upgrade on the 9.1, I have yet to know if I want to grab a pair for myself. they are out of productioon now, are cheap and have a great sound.

Thanks Ear....I don't think I would be laying out for the F20's though

Does anyone else have other input about these old Celestions?

They are DL8's and look as new but they have not been used for a few years...Didn't get the chance to fire them up unfortunately are they likely to be a good grade up to the Wharfy 9.1's....can they deteriorate if not used for a long time?
