Just went to use to use my CD 8 se today and it won't accept CD's like it used to, I used to just gently push the CD into the slot and let the it feed in by it self.

But now when I insert the CD nothing happens, it just gets stuck.

Anyone had a similar fault?

There are lots of threads on this subject in the forum already. Somewhere. I think you have to get your dealer and return it to Cyrus to get it fixed. Very well known and prevalent problem judging by the number of discussions I have seen about it here.

Here is one...

another (scratching discs this time)....

and so on... and so on.

Lots for the looking.

And this is exactly why sound can not be the only issue when looking at your next potential hi-fi system. It is so important to look at the practicality of the player as well.

Don't forget you have spent lots of money on a good system but it is equally likely that you have spent a vast amount on your cd collection as well which you don't want ruined by the unit you have just bought.

There appears to be an absolute obsession with Cyrus players on these forums and yes they do sound outstanding but they look b-awful and who wants some cd player that is intent on screwing up your precious cd collection.

A company like Marantz or Roksan actually consider the functionality and asethetics of their players which is why they do not destroy your collection but they still provide astonishing musicality and pleasure.

Do not worry as the posts above prove you are not alone in this problem. Hope you get it sorted!

Did I mention that my Marantz SA7001 KI has a rather superb tray loading system that exudes class, reliability and has a build quality second to none? No? Well, my Marantz SA7001 has a rather superb...ah.

Joking aside, going by the number of posts on here, and in other threads, I have to say it's more than a bit poor that reliability issues like these are occurring in kit that's not exactly at the cheapo end of the scale. WHF might well have found that the majority of the SE players are going well (presumably according to Cyrus) but there's a small but significant number on here alone, that give some justifiable cause for concern IMO.

Put it this way, would I be splashing out on the 6 or 8 SE? Not on your life.

Quite right, and judging by the tawdry sound I heard in Harrods of the XTse/DAC and power supplies with the Platinums, I won't be going anywhere near Cyrus either. Now sitting listening to a nice Piano on Nick Drake on my trusty Arcs and it's lovely.

Sounds yummy!

Of course the Electrocompanoet EMC1 is the real way to listen to a CD. Just look at that sliding door over the CD...mmmmmm....the hi-fi equivalent of Nigella Lawson's Christmas special of what I like to call "daytime porn"...

Nothing does a piano as well as Arcam...

Except the hi-end, but at the price the Arcs are very hard to beat.

Agreed. There's just something right about Arcs doing close-miked stuff that hi-fi doesn't get - other stuff tends to focus on the timing, but Arcam gets the important bit right: the tonality.
Then again, when it gets all orchestra-ey or heavy metalish, it goes a bit down hill, but it's a small price to pay!

I think that's first time I've ever heard bedsit used as an adjective!

No, John, you are not the only contented owner here.

I am a very happy owner of a Cyrus CD 8 SE CD Player.

Speaking as someone who is looking at upgrading my CD player at some point this year, with a budget that would make Cyrus equipment an option, it will nevertheless not be on the audition list. Frankly all the reported problems have scared me off. While there still seems to be debate about the scale of these problems, there' no smoke without fire, as they say.

I am a thoroughly thrilled XTse owner with no loading or disc scratching issues. Just fantastic music that has on more than one occasion caused me to have tears of joy (and I am not afraid to admit it).

Nice looker but ironically not too far removed from the Cyrus. It doesn't damage the discs but unbelievably it has a tendancy to damage itself as the slider is pushed home. The dem unit I listened to had crazing and cracking at the corner of the indent on the front panel.

Hence why I bought Accuphase.

Can you dance to it? No point otherwise. I was into two-tone, reggae & ska when all that Yes, Genesis, PF, Marillion, Gong... etc concept stuff was going on. Only thing I ever really noticed about fans of that music was that they never bathed, had greasy long hair and wore combat jackets or military greatcoats from the local army suplus stores and preferred to gather in dark rooms with other greasy males to listen to music rather than put on a sharp suit and go out and dance with women. Their rooms at college always stank of incense, sweat, pizzas and despair on the odd occasions the doors ever opened.

And biscuits. Digestives in those days though, Hob Nobs hadn't been invented.
