Having just tried and failed to use a TANNOY SFX SUB barely a rumble. The dealer seems to think the canton is incapable of driving this or any other subwoofer. This sub experiment was to try and gain a wider sound stage something the canton lacks lovely sweet but narrow sound it has. Demoed a yamaha ysp2500 fantastic enveloping sound but nowhere near as sweet sounding. Any help regarding subs appreciated.

LVIS,

I expect your Canton does not have alot of amplifcation and I would seek advice from Canton before you waste time and money. My receiver can drive my speakers and my upgraded sub very loud because it has good ampification for all the channels I use in my 5.1 system.

Best wishes

Is the subwoofer you tried active? Any subwoofer that is active should be able to connect to it! As it has a subwoofer out. The DM75 will not be driving the subwoofer either is just sends a signal to subwoofer (like a cd player to an amplifer).

If it isn't an active subwoofer you need one like this

http://www.superfi.co.uk/p-3656-wharfedale-diamond-sw150-subwoofer-black.aspx?VariantHid=100940&gclid=Cj0KEQiAgMKmBRDMjo_F9OfUubABEiQAp8Ky1yH2-1UJxL9PtdBalZe-qDudqw5Kt5koZtEJUPmyA3waAqKB8P8HAQ

You will have to go in the settings and turn up the sub levels though and you may have to try and trun the subwoofer up also.

This might help: the Canton's sub out does need to be switched on in the extended settings; it's not an auto switching input. This can be done by pushing and holding the sound button.
Hope this helps! We've certainly seen (and heard!) the Canton drive a range of subs successfully.

Yes I did change the sub setting to on in extended settings but no luck with the tannoy sub. Maybe the sub itself was faulty dealer didn't think so! However my plan was to add a sub adjust the canton's bass accordingly so in way resemble a 2.1 system. Would this work? I have listened to yamaha ysp2500 great imaging just think it lacks colour to it's sound unlike the canton

These things are so subjective, not to mention dependent on your room size etc, I can't categorically tell you what will and won't suit you! Could your friendly dealer lend you a few subs to try out (on proviso you buy the one that suits)?

The dealer seems to think adding a sub will only add bass depth and not a bit of sound expansion (width). Also with the tannoy failure he says the canton won't drive a sub anyway. Had a look at a German forum apparently it seems only a canton sub will work with the canton dm75 but someone has had success using two rca cables and a y splitter to the dm75. Time to give up this idea I think.
