Can you enable an Apple Timecapsule to work as a iTunes server?

Buffalo's Livestation can be used as a iTunes server (usable when the PC is not functioning) but AFAIK the Timecapsule cannot... which seem doo-lally since it's just a hard drive like the Buffalo? If Buffalo's HD can do the job shouldn't Apple's equivalent be able to do it too?

Anybody out there able to shed some light on this?

Don't believe so. As a NAS device I don't think the timecapsule is designed to have other programs installed on it. Devices like the ones from QNap, Thecus etc. are designed specifcally to allow programs/modules to run on them so that they can act as a sort of server. The only Itunes server produced by Apple is Itunes itself.

fast eddie:they probably want you to but appleTV as well.

That just seems wrong when there's a perfectly good HD in the Time Capsule.

Yeah but i'm getting cynical in my old age. If i remember rightly its only the airport express that streams audio where as i'm sure the airport extreme could do with the functionality too.

The Time Capsule will store files, but you still need something running iTunes, somewhere.
