Can somebody tell me why I can't output SACD digital through either the optical or coaxial digital output? It only goes through the HDMI? Is this unique to this particular model, or does this apply to all spinners that can play SACDs?

Insufficient bandwidth and copyright protection: it applies to all SACD players, which will only output audio from the CD layer of discs over S/PDIF.

Aha! All is now clear. I'll get the best quality RCA interconnects I can afford then to make up for it. Many thanks Mr E!

Has anyone noticed that the 650 seems much noisier as transport when playing SACDs than when it's playing blu-ray, DVD or stereo CDs? Or is mine a bit odd/faulty?

Strange - only certain SACDs make the 650 very noisy as transport. No Blu-rays, CDs or DVD-Audios do this. Must be a manufacturing balance thing? (This is after about half an hour of testing about fifteen different discs). Sad!
