Just quickly while I'm in the UK for the weekend and perilously close to Richer sounds, how much of an improvement if any is there between the CA 640P over the NAD and the Pro-ject, which I already have? I use the Pro-ject at the moment, but it sounds a bit thin now I've upgraded my speakers.

Just guessing, but fairly minimal I would have thought. For a significant upgrade, I'd suggest you need to be spending quite a bit more.

Graham Slee's entry level phono stage @ £99, Heed Audio's effort at £250 and all points upwards for serious step by step upgrades. £20 between the NAD and the CA won't give you night and day (although the CA640P gives you MM & MC, which I'm not sure that the NAD does).

Thanks guys, I took your advice and stuck with the pro-ject. Just as well, because when I got back I discovered that actually my criticisms were unfair, and that you should never judge any component based on one hearing through new speakers.
