bx2 vs br5

I am looking to spend around £200 on some speakers. I have seen the great reviews on the Bx2's (5 star) and also the review on the Br5's (4 star). The reason i ask is because I have found some Br5's for the same price as the Bx2's. I am wondering if anyone has an opinion on which ones to get and also if the reason that thr Br5's got 4 stars is because they are in a different category. Any comments - opinions would be very useful. Also am thinking of using the fatman carbon mk2 as the amp....

If you go for the bx2 you'll have to add the cost of supports.
But time doesn't stand still and although I've not heard the bx2 I'm guessing they'll be an improvement.
However The br5s are a very capable little floorstander, I have a pair myself, and the price they can be got for now makes them a great bargain.
To go with the Fatman ? I don't know.

Hi Adam,

I demo'ed both BR2's and BR5's, both sounded brilliant and decided that the BR5's just shaded it on performance. But I ended up with the BR2's! This was purely based on aesthetics (I'm a sucker for standmounters) and the available space in our new place made them more practical (D'oh!). Agree with Richard's comments regarding progress and also the need to budget for stands if you go the BX2 route. I suspect the BX2's will have an improved performance judging by a comparison to the BR and BX reviews. Also no experience with the Fatman, but I guess your demo will soon put that right.

Thanks guys. Both useful comments. Personally like the look of stand mounted too! But it's obviously about the sound. 🙂 Will try and check them when I can. Just in case anyone is on the look out for the Br5's really cheap here's a link
