Hi everyone,

My questions will surely look naive but I'm still undecided and I would like to have more feedbacks. I'm thinking to set up a home cinema system but I'm wondering if I'll go for bookshelf speakers or compact style speakers. So far I've been looking at a 685 theatre and at the MT30. The space is a concern for me as I have to move every two years, because of my job.

This system would be used as for music as for movies. I love music, from Pink Floyd to Radiohead kind of sound. I'm quite picky about details and dynamism of sound, and I wouldn't miss that with the compact speakers.

I haven't been able to listen to the MT30 speakers. So my question is, can someone give me an idea of the musically of the MT30 and the very differences between these two kind of packages ?

Thanks,

-david

No familiar with the 2 packages but depending on your room dimensions, its most certainly worth getting the larger speaker packages, not only your AV setup but also your MUSIC setup will reward you for it.!

A golden rule is the more you can get your speakers to convey in terms on the musical information the better.

Hello,

I wanted an all round system, and found the MT-30s were musical when I listened to them. However, high frequencies they just couldn't produce properly, or with any force, and some songs sounded strained to me. There was also a deadening of high frequencies in films. For me it wasn't the best package for the price at music or films.

However, many people seem to love the MT-30s, so I'd still have a listen if you can.

I'd also agree with the other posts that full-size speakers are generally better than the small ones, if you can find the room, though I don't know about the 685 in particular.

It might be worth considering / demoing speakers from a different manufacturer as well?

Did the rounds on this . Plumped for 685 theatre with an upgrade to the Centre with a CM .

If space is the issue go with MT 30 .The PVR is great but reflect on how much of your wonga is going on the sub in this system.

If all round musicality and balance is the issue go with 685 . for me they were the best compromise which surround sound and stereo music from one system requires.

But don't forget the cost impact of decent stands for the 685 theatre which in terms of the cost makes both systems about equal

Denon 2309, sky hd, B and W 685 theatre with CM centre, Z 2's, QED silver, QED performance hdmi, pana bd35, Teac DAB 300, Pana 37
