Hi guys, brand new here. I've seen some great conversations going on here, so I thought I'd come for advice. I'm a college student moving into a small apartment unfortunately right as I've been bitten by the hifi bug. Right now, I have a very cheap and not-exactly-hifi setup for listening to vinyl records at home that I was gifted. My audio-technica turntable isn't ideal, but the main problem is the dirt cheap amp and speakers. I want to find a nice set of bookshelf speakers that I can use primarily for listening to records.

However, being in an apartment and wanting to get the most bang for my negligible amount of bucks, it makes sense to me to use a home theater a/v amp to play my personal records (indie, acoustic, punk and rock) as well as to override the tv built ins for movies, games, etc- obviously played in stereo for now, but expandable to 5.1 eventually. HDMI inputs a necessity, but used is fine.

I would not plan to use a subwoofer as I'm in an apartment, so decent bass is a boost but not necessity- these won't be party speakers.

I has been looking into wharfedale 10.1s, or similar.

Recommendations?

TL;DR- sub $400 bookshelf speakers and a home theater a/v to pair them with?
