am looking to replace my arcam alpha 7 amp, have been looking at rotel ra o4 & 05 and arcam a65 & a70 rega brio 3 marantz pm6002. etc budget is around £400 am willing second hand options aswell (ebay)

Secondhand look at the BADA Marketplace also - many dealers will offer you a warranty. Billy Vee being one such example plus they're good to deal with too.
