HI all.

I just bought B&W dm603 s2 along with Marantz SR7000 in a very good condition.The speakers haven't been used for the last 5 years standing in the basement.

I must say that I am little disapointed for there is very poor bass/low tones response.I know that these speakers are not famous for its bass but this is worse than I have expected.The high tones from the tweeters are so overwhelming that it is almost hard to listen to this.It is extremely frustrating because my old set of B&W DS1 and ONKYO TX-910 play better than these :)

I was wondering if anybody have or had these speakers and might give some advise?Could it be amplifiers fault as there is no equalizer to play with it and somehow improve bass performance?Any advise is appreciated.Thanks and Regards!

First thing to do is to check the wiring is correct, if out of phase they will lack bass, also play some mono recordings see if they sound right.

Thanks for prompt reply :)

Sorry but I am new to HI-FI.What does "out of phase"means?

As for the wiring I have bought new cables from amp to speakers but I kept the old connection between lows and mid-highs it is made from short basic cable.Could it be the cause of poor bass?

Do you guys know what is the best way to bridge the low and high in bi-wiring speakers? What sort of material is best?Just don't go too crazy please :)things like gold is too expensive for me.Is cable 4mm of copper good enough for the purpose?

It means the speakers are not playing the music in phase, its hard to explain this may help: http://www.richardfarrar.com/are-your-speakers-wired-correctly.

It means your wiring is not the same from the amp. to each speaker or the wiring inside the speaker is incorrect. I had this problem when I had a new carpet, wiring was under the floor so when I disconnected the speakers I did not know which way round to reconnect them, so I had to guess and it got it wrong, bass light and mono sounded thin and strange.

So you have 4 connection points on your speakers, any decent thickness copper cable should be fine between them if single wiring, or just use some of your speaker cable. You could try connecting the wire the other way around to the tweeters first then connectors to the bass, some say this sounds better. I would clean up the connectors as well in case there is a poor connction.

Yes; btw, gold is not so good like copper...

603 >>> http://www.bowers-wilkins.com/Downloads

/Product/Manual//ENG_FP10331_DM603-S2_manual.pdf

have plenty of bass, maybe your Mara setup is not good;

take a look to his manual for optimal settings;

otherwise try with a normal 2 ch stereo amp... :?

phase :

- check that + from amp output is linked with + terminal of spk

- check that - from amp output is linked with - terminal of spk

- or buy the new 684 >>> http://www.bowers-wilkins.com/Speakers/Home_Audio/600_Series/684.html

with their new 13 cm woofers vs your 18 cm one... :rofl:
