Their stuff is very expensive. but so many people seem to go nuts for it. Just lack of information i guess and great marketing.

Style over substance sells, that is why i would not buy a Panasonic Plasma over a Samsung Led,even though it is meant to be the better TV,and i am sure i am not alone.

nothing wrong with Bose. If you want to keep your room clutter-free or think speakers are "ugly", then they're the perfect solution. I'd much rather have bose than in-ceiling speakers.

although it annoys me that the sale-folk I've dealt with have refused to acknowledge that pound-for-pound there was a better sound from a full-sized solution.

Conversely, that's exactly why I bought a Panasonic TH37PX80 2 years ago; it's not a stylish tv, it was one of the cheapest plasma screens at the time and also one of the best performing (at the price bracket). Personally I thought it was pretty much the opposite of style over substance.

We all have our list of priorities. Bose may not be audiophile grade in the true sense, but it's targeting the general consumer market & not the audiophile one. Most of the Bose buyers are happy, & in fact proud of the purchase.

Andrew Everard:

chudleighpaul:IMO Bang and Olufsen fall into the same bracket.

Well in that case YO is sadly uninformed.

B&O are far to expensive, I am not knocking the quality per se, my point is they are not pound for pound good value for money.

Actually, I think they are value for money. You get what you pay for. B&O makes almost all components themselves (except the LCD panel). Other manufacturers get components made cheaply from small companies in China & then assemble them. Obviously, there's quality control issue there, like what happened with Toyota.

Not to mention the top notch customer service which the mainstream companies can only dream of.

I can see why Bose appeals to people - it's discreet, has good looks, through its advertising it has achieve a premium status, and it's a simple plug and play/easy to operate kit.

I can't see anything in the rules that forbids linking to other sites so look at this collection of articles about what you actually get for your money

LINK REMOVED: please read the House Rules more carefully - MODS

However, even at a cursory glance at Bose kit reveals that it doesn't feel solidly made.

B&O kit is a different class. Very well made and truly beautiful but i can't comment on the sound quality.

Although Bose didn't invent the sub/sat market, you could argue that they invented the 'lifestyle' market. All products have their place in the market, and as much as we audiophiles like hulking great speakers with cable thicker than hosepipe and multiples boxes, the majority don't. Most people want something functional, discreet, and simple to use. Bose does just that. many others have copied, and failed, as with B&O. Of course it's going to be overpriced to us, but to those who want a system the whole family can use, and not have it dominate their every day living space, it's worth every penny.

EDITED BY MODS - please do not discuss moderation. That's in the House Rules, too...

Ask the world "why Bose sucks" and you'll get a number of answers.

I have actually heard a Bose system in somebody's house, it sounded good and of course was very neat and unobtrusive, but there were many better and less costly options available
