But to actually answer the question (unusual for me, I know):

You will probably find that most users here will be fairly derogatory about Bose, and I'm not about to change that - my own experience of their products is that they are vastly over-priced and don't offer anything approaching a "high fidelity" sound - their idea of a stereo image is one that surrounds you completely, or has no 'point source', but is just a wall of sound -which is completely at odds with what most people here expect from their equipment - and the tonality itself was something akin to a small portable radio.

With that in mind, and the fact that they're not exactly priced at portable-radio level, I find it difficult to see why anybody could want one.

Well, you did ask.

I'm sort of with John, except that I did find their satellite/sub system quite good tonally. But completely lacking in stereo imaging.

They can be unobtrusive (even hidden) which I suppose is some of their appeal, but a lot of their pricing of the higher-end kit is touching B&O prices, where style and sound quality do mix.

Bose are one if not the best hi-fi makes in the world, they are fitted to loads of placies like high spec cars, famous peoples homes and out shine any other hifi maker, they appear on QVC quite offen with their clock radio/cd player its one of the cheaper models at around £300 but even this would beat most peoples systems on here.

I'm sorry, have you actually heard one of those?

One of my friends has one in his dining room, and whilst it produces a pleasent sound, my old system (25yr old Rotel amp, 25yr old Mission speakers, Sony CD player) absolutely trounces it on sound quality and bass extension.

A similar £300 system today (superfi's £349 system comes to mind) would also trounce the Bose Radio/CD. Not as compact, I'll grant you...

[edit]...hang on, you're just kidding..right?

I've got a background in pro audio - PA hire etc..

There's a saying in that game that goes like this..

I hear no highs
I feel no lows
It sounds like ....
It must be Bose..

However I've heard 802s that sound great in small pubs, used as vocal only PA..
