using my hi-fi gives me good sound from my PIONEER BDP 51FD, but using the optical audio out into my DAC means the picture and sound are out of sync. Close enough so i cant decide which is lagging, but noticable enough so it niggles and annoys me.

Ive now set the blueray to mix down to stereo and pass it to the tv (PIONEER KURO KVL32") as PCM by HDMI. Then used the tv's optical out to the HIFI DAC.

Its solved the sync. Just wondering if you think this is the best way to do it quality wise (ie getting HD audio). Still got coax and and analogue outputs to try.

Cheers

You can't get HD audio through an optical or coax connection full stop.

The only way you'll get it is through HDMI or if your blu-ray player has multi-channel analogue outputs and your amp the equivalent inputs.

I've also a pioneer 51fd. I run through the analogue multi-outs. Lip sync is much better with my pioneer plasma than it was through my old denon DVD via optical output. You will probably find it is better with your setup too.
